Valentine will be traded to the Knicks as part of a three-team deal involving the Lakers and Cavaliers, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.

The Scoop:On Friday, it was reported that Valentine would head to the Lakers in exchange for Rajon Rondo, with the expectation that Los Angeles would ultimately waive the former Michigan State standout in order to create an open roster spot. Rather than taking that path, the Lakers will instead ship Valentine to the Knicks, who may be in need of some guard depth with Derrick Rose (ankle) sidelined and Kemba Walker battling recurring knee issues. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports that the Knicks are yet to make a decision on whether or not they will keep Valentine on the roster. To complete the deal, Wojnarowski notes that New York will send out the draft rights to multiple players, including 2014 second-round pick Louis Labeyrie, to Los Angeles. None of the draft-rights players included in the deal are expected to play in the NBA.

Denzel Valentine: Traded, expected to be waived
Valentine was traded from the Cavaliers to the Lakers on Friday in exchange for Rajon Rondo but is expected to be waived, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.

The Scoop: The Lakers seemingly wanted to just open a roster spot instead of having Rondo, who didn't have a significant role with the team. Valentine has appeared in 22 games this season but has only seen double-digit minutes in seven, with averages in those games of 6.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists. Wherever he eventually lands, it seems unlikely he'll be fantasy-relevant.

Denzel Valentine: Paces bench in scoring
Valentine poured in 17 points (6-11 FG, 5-9 3Pt) to go with nine rebounds, two assists and two steals in 26 minutes Sunday in the Cavaliers' 144-99 win over the Raptors.

The Scoop: Valentine was one of several Cavaliers players to enter the NBA's COVID-19 health and safety protocols within the past week, but he was cleared ahead of Wednesday's 111-101 loss to the Celtics and never missed any game action. For the Cavs' second straight game, Valentine received 26 minutes, and he was able to carve up a depleted Raptors squad that had just eight available players, including four who were recently added on 10-day hardship exemptions. Valentine looks like he'll be one of the top scoring options off the Cavs' bench in the short term, but his minutes will almost certainly take a hit once Cleveland gets more healthy bodies back in the mix. The Cavaliers were without seven players Sunday who are still in the health and safety protocols.

Denzel Valentine: Will be available Wednesday
Valentine is listed as available for Wednesday's contest against the Celtics.

The Scoop: Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported that Valentine was one of five Cavaliers to test positive for the virus Sunday, prompting the NBA to postpone the team's game against the Atlanta. The 28-year-old was expected to be sidelined for 7-to-10 days, but he has cleared protocols after just three days, which suggests the initial test was a false positive. Valentine will likely operate in a reserve role behind Lauri Markkanen and Dean Wade.

Denzel Valentine: In protocols
Valentine was placed in the league's COVID-19 health and safety protocols Sunday after testing positive for the virus, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.

The Scoop: Valentine was one of five Cavaliers to test positive for the virus Sunday, prompting the NBA to postpone the team's game against Atlanta later in the day due to the Cavaliers' inability to have the league-mandated eight players active for the contest. The 28-year-old wing will most likely be sidelined for 7-to-10 days while he waits to clear the protocol.
