Embiid contributed 42 points (12-23 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 16-21 FT), 14 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and one steal in 45 minutes during Saturday's 121-120 double-overtime loss to the Timberwolves.

The Scoop:Embiid returned from a nine-game absence due to COVID-19 protocols to drop a season-high 42 points. The star big man was aggressive early and often, getting to the free-throw line a season-high 21 times. This performance should be a great sign for fantasy managers, as it appears Embiid will be all systems go moving forward. The Sixers don't have a back-to-back during their upcoming three-game week, so Embiid shouldn't be in danger of missing any games due to rest or conditioning issues.

Joel Embiid: Available vs. Timberwolves
Embiid (COVID-19 protocols) is available against the Timberwolves on Saturday, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The Scoop: Embiid sat out the Sixers' previous nine games while recovering from COVID-19. Chances are, he'll face a soft minutes limit given the long layoff, so the big man makes for a fairly risky play in DFS contests. Embiid averaged 21.4 points, 9.6 rebounds and 1.4 blocks across his last nine games before the positive COVID-19 test.

Joel Embiid: Questionable for Saturday
Embiid (COVID-19 protocols) is questionable for Saturday's game against the Timberwolves, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.

The Scoop: As expected, Embiid is on the verge of making his return, which could come as soon as this weekend. He's been out due to protocols and hasn't played since Nov. 6 -- a nine-game absence. If the star center returns, he figures to be on a minutes limit.

Joel Embiid: Could return Saturday
Embiid (COVID-19 protocols) could make his return Saturday against Minnesota, Michael Kaskey-Blomain of CBS Sports reports.

The Scoop: Philadelphia head coach Doc Rivers said Monday that Embiid "passed one of the tests" and is working out at the team's practice facility in Camden, according to Rich Hofmann of The Athletic. There hasn't been confirmation of a second passed test, which would remove Embiid from COVID-19 protocols, but it's still a great sign to see him working out and getting his conditioning back. The star center didn't travel with the Sixers during their six-game road trip that ends Wednesday at Golden State, but it appears he may be able to play when the team returns home Saturday to face Minnesota. Before his extended absence, Embiid was averaging 21.4 points, 9.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.4 blocks across 30.9 minutes per game.

Joel Embiid: Likely to miss entire six-game trip
Philadelphia head coach Doc Rivers suggested Tuesday that Embiid, who tested positive for COVID-19 on Nov. 8, remains symptomatic and isn't expected to rejoin the 76ers for the remaining four contests of its six-game West Coast road trip, Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. "With Matisse [Thybulle, who is also following the NBA's health and safety protocols], it's just trying to get the right date with the league," Rivers said. "It's a lot of clutter going on. I'll leave it at that. With Joel, the same thing, just trying to get better. You have to have the two negative tests [before returning]."

The Scoop: Though both Embiid and Thybulle are vaccinated, the latter player seems more likely of the two to rejoin the 76ers at some point over the remaining four games of the road trip after entering the NBA's health and safety protocols two days prior to Embiid. The 76ers have struggled to a 1-4 record without Embiid -- and a few other key players -- over the past five games, and the star center's absence loomed especially large in a blowout loss in Utah on Tuesday, when replacement starter Andre Drummond was manhandled by Rudy Gobert. If Embiid does in fact remain out through the duration of the 76ers' road trip that concludes Nov. 24 at Golden State, Rivers would likely continue to rely on Drummond and a melange of small-ball centers as matchups dictate.
