|John Collins: Inks $125 million deal with Atlanta|
Collins and the Hawks agreed Wednesday on a five-year, $125 million contract, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. The deal includes a player option for 2025-26.
The Scoop: After tendering a qualifying offer to Collins in July, the Hawks were widely expected to retain the big man in restricted free agency, and the two sides were able to strike a deal relatively quickly. Collins won't turn 24 years old until September, so the new deal will keep him in the fold through at least his age-27 season. Though his numbers took a slight hit in 2020-21 while he shared the frontcourt with center Clint Capela, Collins was still immensely productive. He wrapped up his fourth NBA season with averages of 17.6 points, 7.4 boards, 1.3 three-pointers, 1.2 assists and 1.0 blocks in 29.3 minutes per contest while shooting 55.6 percent from the field, 39.9 percent from downtown and a career-best 83.3 percent from the charity stripe.
