|Lauri Markkanen: Traded to Cleveland|
Markkanen was traded to Cleveland on Friday in a three-team deal that sent Larry Nance to Portland and Derrick Jones — along with a first-round pick — to Chicago, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
The Scoop: Markkanen had expressed his desire to move on from Chicago after the Bulls selected Patrick Williams in the 2020 draft and traded for Nikola Vucevic at the trade deadline last year. The 24-year-old will get his fresh start -- and a four-year, $67 million contact -- in Cleveland as he teams up with a frontcount comprised of Jarrett Allen and No. 3 overall draft pick Evan Mobley. The Arizona product had a stellar sophomore campaign where he averaged 18.7 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. However, he has regressed every year since and finished last season averaging 13.6 points and 5.3 rebounds -- both career-lows. Markkanen will look to rebound with the Cavs, but his health will be a primary factor in his success as he has missed 20-plus games in each of the last three season.
