|Julius Randle: Reaches extension|
Randle agreed Thursday with the Knicks on a four-year, $117 million contract extension, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. The deal includes a player option for 2025-26.
The Scoop: Randle was on the books for $19.8 million in the final season of his contract with the Knicks in 2021-22, but he'll get some longer-term security following a career-best campaign in which he became a first-time All-Star and took home the NBA Most Improved Player Award. Rather than waiting for his deal to expire after the upcoming season and pursuing a max deal as an unrestricted free agent next summer, Randle's decision to extend his contract will afford the Knicks some extra financial flexibility to shape the roster around him. After leading the NBA in minutes per game (37.6) in 2020-21, Randle should once again get all the run he can handle heading into his third season with New York, but he may lose out on some usage with the Knicks bringing aboard Kemba Walker and Evan Fournier earlier in the offseason.
