|Bradley Beal: Season-ending surgery on tap|
Beal plans to undergo season-ending surgery after he had his left wrist re-evaluated Tuesday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
The Scoop: After initially suffering the injury Jan. 29, Beal missed four consecutive games and was already set to miss a fifth straight contest Thursday versus Brooklyn. Shortly after being diagnosed with the sprained wrist, the veteran guard saw a specialist in New York City, which quickly raised alarms about a long-term absence. Those concerns didn't dissipate following Beal's one-week shutdown, and after receiving additional medical opinions, he looks poised to go under the knife. Aaron Holiday has started in place of Beal in each of the last four games and will likely continue to see an increased workload for the remainder of the season, as should young wings Corey Kispert and Deni Avdija. From a usage standpoint, Spencer Dinwiddie and Kyle Kuzma will likely continue to carry most of the load, but the Wizards hopes of sticking in the playoff picture are significant damaged with their best player out of commission. According to Wojnarowski, Beal is eligible to sign a five-year, $245 million contract extension with the Wizards this summer, but his upcoming wrist surgery could halt momentum on a potential deal. If an extension isn't reached his offseason, Beal will have a decision to make regarding his $36.4 million player option for the 2022-23 campaign.
