|Isaiah Stewart: 'Ahead of schedule' in rehab|
Stewart (ankle) said he is “ahead of schedule” as he works back from a July ankle injury sustained while scrimmaging with Team USA, Omari Sankofa of the Detroit Free Press reports.
The Scoop: Speaking to Sankofa in Las Vegas on Saturday, Stewart confirmed that he will not participate in any of the Pistons' Summer League games, though he noted that his recovery from the ankle injury is going well. "I'm doing pretty good," Stewart said. "I'm ahead of schedule, but they're not rushing me back or anything. They want me ready and 100% healthy or training camp going into the season." The big man, who suffered the injury back on July 8, said he's yet to return to playing five-on-five and has not taken contact during on-court work. Stewart led all rookies in total blocks and total rebounds last season and was one of the few bright spots for one of the NBA's worst teams. He'll likely be set for a larger and more consistent workload in 2021-22, though his exact role remains clouded after the Pistons swapped out Mason Plumlee for veteran Kelly Olynyk this offseason.
