|Derrick Rose: Unlikely to return this season|
Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau expressed pessimism Monday when asked about Rose's (ankle) chances of playing again in 2021-22, Marc Berman of the New York Post reports. "I don't know [if there's time for Rose to return this season]," Thibodeau said. "I don't know -- he's been out a long time. He hasn't taken contact on. He's ramped up his conditioning but hasn't taken contact on. That's a big thing."
The Scoop: Though Rose was believed to have taken a step forward in practice last week, Thibodeau admitted Monday that the 33-year-old's conditioning was still an issue. With Rose having yet to be cleared for contact and the Knicks having been eliminated from contention for the play-in game, the veteran guard seems unlikely to push for a return in the final week of the season. Assuming that's the case, Rose will finish with averages of 12.0 points, 4.0 assists, 3.0 rebounds, 1.4 three-pointers and 0.8 steals in 24.5 minutes per game over 26 appearances in the second season of his second stint with the Knicks.
