Likely out rest of season
Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins said Friday that Williams will likely miss the rest of the 2023-24 campaign with a right low back injury and a hip flexor strain, Damichael Cole of The Memphis Commercial Appeal reports.
The Scoop: Williams hasn't played since March 2 due to the pair of injuries and was scheduled to be re-evaluated early next week. Even if Williams has made improvement on some level in his recovery from the pair of injuries, the Grizzlies won't rush him back in action with the team well out of playoff contention. With Memphis banged up for much of the season, Williams saw extended playing time early in the campaign and averaged 8.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.1 three-pointers in 20.4 minutes across 51 appearances (15 starts). The 2021 first-round pick is under contract with the Grizzlies for one more season and will be 23 years old in September.
