Won't play Wednesday

Wed, Feb 14 2024 3:14 PST

The News
Simmons won't play in Wednesday's game versus the Celtics due to left knee injury management, Evan Barnes of Newsday reports.

Our View
Simmons hasn't suffered any injury but will sit out the second leg of Brooklyn's back-to-back against Boston. In Tuesday's 118-110 loss, Simmons played 24 minutes -- his most since Nov. 6 -- and finished with five points (1-5 FG, 3-6 FT), eight assists and six rebounds. Dennis Schroder is likely to replace Simmons as the Nets' starting point guard Wednesday, while centers Nic Claxton and Day'Ron Sharpe and reserve guard Dennis Smith could have higher minutes floors since Brooklyn won't have to keep as many floor spacers on the court to compensate for Simmons' lack of perimeter shooting.
