The News
Hayward remains out for Monday's game against the Lakers, but Hornets head coach Steve Clifford said that the forward -- who hasn't played since Dec. 26 due to a left calf strain -- is "pretty close" to returning, Mike Trudell of Spectrum SportsNet reports.
Our View
Hayward will presumably be limited upon his return and has been mentioned in trade talks ahead of Thursday's deadline, so his situation remains fluid. He was playing well prior to the lengthy absence, averaging 14.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.1 steals in 31.9 minutes per game across 25 appearances. Hayward will likely remain out for Wednesday's game against the Raptors, but the Hornets could have another update on his status in the aftermath of Thursday's deadline.
