Brunson (hand/wrist) stated Thursday that he's no longer injured, Fred Katz of The Athletic reports. The Scoop:As expected, Brunson will be ready for the opening of Knicks training camp. He's coming off the best season of his career, making his first All-Star Game and being voted to Second Team All-NBA. The Knicks made a splash in the offseason, adding Mikal Bridges to the roster, which could take some of the usage burden off Brunson. Aug 8 6:42 ET - | ||||||||

Inks extension with New York The Knicks signed Brunson to a four-year, $156.5 million contract extension Friday that includes a player option in the fourth year, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. The Scoop: Brunson was eligible to sign a five-year, $269 million deal in 2025, but his decision to take a pay cut in 2024 will provide the Knicks with cap flexibility as they look to maximize their championship window. The star guard was named to the All-NBA Second Team in 2023-24 after averaging 28.7 points, 6.7 assists and 3.6 rebounds in 35.4 minutes across 77 regular-season appearances. Despite coming up short in the Eastern Conference Semifinals to Indiana, Brunson also had a fantastic playoff run, averaging 32.4 points, 7.5 assists and 3.3 rebounds in 39.8 minutes across 13 postseason outings. With OG Anunoby already signing a five-year extension this offseason, Brunson's decision could allow New York the ability to retain players like Mikal Bridges long-term. Jul 12 9:11 ET |
Undergoes left hand surgery Brunson underwent successful surgery for his left hand fracture Wednesday and will be re-evaluated in 6-to-8 weeks. The Scoop: Brunson picked up the fracture in Sunday's Game 7 loss against the Pacers, but with this timeframe, his status for training camp isn't likely to be in jeopardy. Brunson took his game to another level during the 2023-24 campaign, posting regular-season averages of 28.7 points, 6.7 assists, 3.6 rebounds, 0.9 steals and 2.7 three-pointers. May 22 2:34 ET |
Diagnosed with left hand fracture Brunson has been diagnosed with a left hand fracture and won't return to Sunday's Game 7 against the Pacers. The Scoop: Brunson finishes Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals with 17 points (6-17 FG) and nine assists in 29 minutes. The Pacers hold a commanding double-digit lead, but even if the Knicks pull off a comeback and extend their season, Brunson would presumably miss extended time due to the injury. Alec Burks and Miles McBride are candidates for increased minutes in Brunson's absence. May 19 9:42 ET |
Heads to locker room Brunson went to the locker room late in the third quarter of Sunday's Game 7 against the Pacers due to an undisclosed injury, Stefan Bondy of The New York Post reports. The Scoop: Brunson has dealt with a foot injury throughout the postseason, but it's unclear why he had to go to the locker room Sunday. The point guard has 17 points (6-17 FG) and nine assists in 29 minutes, so if he's unable to return, Alec Burks and Miles McBride will need to step up. May 19 9:39 ET |
