2012-13 Free Agency List

This year in our efforts to expand the Agent experience, Users who wish to be agents not only represent free agents players, but any player under contract.

Newest Feature: The Player Buyout
One of the new features in Mock GM 2008 is the Buyout feature which allows GMs to buyout the remaining years of a players contract using the GMs Team budget. Top

Why Buyout A Player?
GMs buyout players for many reasons mainly because the player they have no longer plays, the player does not have enough value to include in a trade, or the GM doesn't see the player in the teams future. Instead of releasing the player and incurring a cap penalty, GMs can use their team budget to buyout the remaining years of the players contract thus saving on cap space and allow the player to pursue another team. Top

What role does an agent player in player buyouts?
An agents role in a player buyout is to represent the player in the player buyout. GMs or Agents can propose player buyout and it is up to the GM and the Agent to agree on the terms of the buyout in order for the buyout transaction to be finalized. Top

What is in it for the Agent to agree to a player buyout?
The incentive for Agents to agree to buyouts is that their clients get up-front money from a buyout which means a contingency fee for the Agency, plus the agent can negotiate a new contract for their play which is another contingency fee for the Agency. Top

What else is there for agents to do?
Like in previous years, Free Agents (FA), players with Player Options (PO), players with Qualifying Offers (QO), Drafted players (DRFT), and Undrafted players (UND) can be claimed 7/12/2012 or once the free agency period starts in your league. Players under contract (YBC), Players with trade rights (TR, TRF), and Unclaimed Free Agents, (UFA) can be claimed 6/21/2012 or as soon as your league begins. Players with Team Options (TO) can be claimed before or after the free agency period once their team option has been decided. Cap Penalties (CAP), Retired players (RET), and drat pick vouchers (PCK) cannot be represented at any point in the game. Top

Why be an Agent?
Being an agent is a very powerful and influential position in this game. They control the free agent market, push the limits of the salary cap and dictate how GMs builds their teams. Being an agent doesn’t take as much time as being a GM, but the better Agents are very involved with their clients and the teams they are on throughout the game season. It is very important to build good relationships with GMs because GMs ultimately decide what players they put in their rotation during the Head-to-Head regular season. Agents are measured against other Agents based on the fantasy points their clients accumulate throughout the game season and Agents only get fantasy points when a GM has their client in rotation during a live game. Top

Agent or GM?
If you don’t want to manage a team but want to make your presence felt in a fantasy basketball league, then being an agent is the right choice for you. The bulk of your involvement is during the free agency period when you are negotiating contracts. After that, your points are based on if your clients are in GMs rotations so there is no additional work involved.  Top

How can I be an Agent?
Just like GMs, Agents claim free agents and players on a first-come first-serve basis. Once you pick a player you have the power to control where he goes and how much money he would like to sign for based on his band level, contract buyouts, you make the calls. Top

How many players can an Agent represent ?
This year Agents can represent up to 30 clients. You will notice each player has a free agent tier from 1 to 3 (3 being the highest free agent tier, 1 being the lowest free agent tier) Of the 30 clients, up to five clients can be of free agent tier 3, eight clients can be of free agent tier 2, and seventeen clients can be of free agent tier 1.  Top

How do agents claim clients?
You must be an agent in your league to claim players. Players that are available will have a radio button next to the players’ name.  Top

Who is SuperAgentXXXX?
Each league will have a master Agent that represents the un-represented. If the league creator decides to be an agent then he is automatically assigned access to SuperAgentXXXX. If the league creator decides to be a GM he gets to appoint one of the league agents access to SuperAgentXXXX. Under SuperAgentXXXX, all players have the potential of being involved in contract talks.  Top

Why do I have to wait to claim FA, PO, QO, DRFT, and UND players?
In an effort to prevent GMs from tampering with contract negotiations before the free agency period, Agents cannot claim free agents until free agency starts. Top

When do clients with Player Options have to be decided?
All Player Options must be decided Wednesday, July 18, 2012 or before the free agency signing period in your league. Player Options not decided will default to the players’ logical option based on their contract and performance from the previous season. Top

What is a flagship client?
An Agents Flagship Client is their sports agencies main client usually a superstar client or client with a max salary. This player represents the face of your organization. Top

Can I drop clients?
Yes you can drop client representation with no penalty however if you represent a player with a Player Option or Qualifying Offer, you MUST complete the negotiations of a new contract if you declare that player a free agent.  Top

What are band levels?
Salary Band level are assigned to players based on how many years they have been in the NBA. Players with 0-6 years are band 1, 7-9 years are band 2, and 10+ years are band 3. The different band levels have their own salary ranges. Top

What are minimum bids?
Each player has a number of minimum contract offers that need to be reached before an agent can decide on a contract. This is to prevent agents from signing the first contract they receive. Top

How involved are Agents while GMs compete in Head-to-Head during the NBA season?
There will always be new players coming into the league and GMs are always going to be signing players which is where the Agent comes into play. While you won’t have to adjust lineups during regular season play like GMs, You want to be accessible to negotiate buyouts, new contracts and other types of transactions. Top

How are Agents measured amongst other Agents?
Agents are measured by their clients salaries and their performance on the basketball court. This year Agents will be competing with other Agents while the GMs compete Head-to-Head during the regular season. Agents get fantasy points when a GM has their client in rotation during a live game. At the end of the year, the agent with the most fantasy points is declared the best agent.  Top
