Down by 12 with four minutes to play, the Mavericks (36-37) staged a fourth quarter rally to remain within striking distance of the Utah Jazz and the Los Angeles Lakers in the race for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Several thoughts about this:
1. If I was going to morph into a Mavs teammate, I'd probably pick Dirk Nowitzki over Brandan Wright. No shots, Brandan; I just think people would be nicer to me if they thought I was a guy who's about to pass Patrick Ewing for 17th place on the NBA's all-time scoring list. (Then again, the ruse would probably be up pretty quick once they realized I wasn't capable of keeping up Dirk's crazy hot shooting, which has seen him hit 61.2 percent from the floor and 55.6 percent from 3-point range over the past week . It'd be neat before that, though.)
Wright had one of the best games of his career on Friday, posting 23 points on 11-of-16 shooting with eight rebounds in Dallas' 104-94 win over Boston.
The Scoop:It was only the 13th straight of the season for Wright, but he's averaging 10.7 points while shooting 64.3 percent from the field in those contests.
