The draft is approaching and free agents are allowed to sign with teams right after. These two events are very important for teams, especially young teams that are in the process of rebuilding. These select teams wait the whole year for the offseason, in hopes to draft the next superstar or sign their franchise center piece if he's out there. Unfortunately this is not the year to find your franchise corner stone in both the draft and free agency. Despite the weak draft class and the talent deficient free agency market, teams can still add quality pieces to shape their future. However, teams can't proceed unless they have their head coach in place. The head coach is the man that dictates the personality and direction the locker room is headed in. A team without a head coach is like a car without an engine. Free agents would shy away from signing to a team that doesn't have a set coach with an established identity. There are select teams that have head coaching vacancies and some teams that are considering relieving their current head coach of his duties. These teams needs to fill that vacancy as soon as possible to help with the draft process and future planning, if these teams refuse to address the head coaching vacancy sooner than later, then they can be facing a problem when negotiating with free agents. One question remains; are you willing to hand your franchise over to a current assistant looking for a head coaching gig or would you take the safe rout and hire the experienced veteran?
Here are a list of teams that have vacancies:
